About Us!

During Non-Covid times, all regular Guild meetings will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at Church of the Advent, 510 Mount View Avenue, in Colwood (Victoria, BC) unless otherwise noted. Day and evening meetings will be alternated, except for summer meetings which are all held in the evenings.  At each meeting a program is usually presented, followed by Show & Share, and finally coffee/tea and social time.  Guests are welcome for $5, and if you join the guild that night, the $5 guest fee will be deducted from your membership fee of $50/year.

Please bring goodies to share if your last name begins with the initials listed after the meeting date and time. See the program page for details.

Thanks!

Note: Meetings, sewing days, etc. are fragrance free, please!  And we ask that cell phones be turned off or set to mute.

The Westshore Quilters' Guild meets at the Church of the Advent (COTA) located at 510 Mount View Ave, in Colwood, BC.  Please see the calendar, programs or workshop pages for upcoming meetings and events.

To find COTA, travel along Sooke Road.  Turn onto Mount View Ave just behind the Shell Station and across the street from the Dairy Queen.  The driveway to the church is the first roadway on the right hand side.

What can we say about the Westshore Quilters' Guild?  We are a tremendously fun, social and talented group of people, women and men (well one man, but we're always recruiting members), of all ages and talents, beginners and internationally award winning quilters, pattern designers, professional long arm quilters, and all quilting genres from applique, to modern, to art, to traditional and more!!  We meet once a month (by zoom during Covid).  Membership in the Guild automatically gives you membership in the Charity Society which also meets once a month for a sew day to make quilts to donate to charity.  The guild also hosts two sew days every month, usually a Thursday and a Saturday.  We usually have at least one workshop every month (lunch included).  We celebrate National Quilt Day in March with a sew day & potluck lunch.  We have mini workshops in Spring and Fall.  There are usually three retreats every year - one being a 4 night retreat at Camp Pringle in Shawnigan Lake, and two daytime retreats in the Highlands.  Occasionally there are planned trips to local, provincial and/or international events.  The guild hosts a quilt show every other year - the next one being planned for September 2021.... Sweet Sixteen - A Virtual Quilt Show.  We have a lovely library of books and rulers/templates available at meetings and sew days.  Our Show & Share's at each meeting are popular for the members to show off what they've been quilting.  If you miss a meeting, you can usually catch the photos on our monthly newsletter or popular Facebook page.  We have hosted Mystery Quilts and Quilt Alongs, and various challenges throughout each year.  Along with the charities supported by our Charity Society, our members are active in the community and we quilt for many different agencies that require quilts etc such as Quilts of Valour and emergency reliefs.  And since we are known as "the pincushion guild", we make thousands of pincushions as advertisements/invitations for our next quilt show.

How it all began!

The idea of forming a new guild in the Western Communities of Victoria was conceived by Jan Peever and Anna LeDrew during a trip to the quilt show in Sisters, Oregon. When they returned home, they talked to other quilters and the local quilt shop, The Cloth Castle, about their idea and everyone was extremely enthusiastic.

Buoyed by the response, the Westshore Quilters’ Guild’s first meeting was held at Gordon United Church on Sep 22, 2005 with 49 charter members present. Jan was elected as the inaugural president.

The first quilt show – “First Ever Quilt Show” was held  at Langford’s Eagle Ridge Community Centre April 27, 28 and 29 2007.  Westshore Quilters’ Guild became the “Pincushion Guild” with the making of 4,500 pin cushions to advertise the show!

The Guild moved from Gordon United Church to Pilgrim United Church on Painter Road in Colwood. When Pilgrim United Church was sold in 2015 the Guild moved to its current home – Church of the Advent, 510 Mount View Road, Colwood, BC.
