Summer Sew-Along
Each summer, the Guild offers a Summer Sew-Along. Summer Sew-Along projects are fun and easy to sew - a little sewing each week will result in a quilt top completed by Labour Day.
Participants meet weekly in July and August on Zoom to share progress on the pattern. The fun part of the project is seeing how the quilt looks with everyone's fabric choices!
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is there a cost to participate? For summer 2025, there was no cost to join.
2. What about the pattern: how much does it cost? Some years, we use a pattern that is available for purchase at local quilt shops. Other years, we use a free pattern or a tutorial available online.
3. I would like to participate, but I'll be away on vacation and will miss a week. Could I still join? Our meetings are recorded, so if you miss a week (or more) you can watch the video and catch up when you're home.
4. I don't want to make a big quilt - can I make a smaller version? You can make your quilt as big or as small as you like. Some participants have made baby quilts, or enlarged the quilt to fit a Queen bed.
5. Is this a class or workshop? Summer Sew-A-Longs don't include instruction. Sometimes we share tips about cutting or construction methods that vary from the way the original pattern is written. The projects tend to be relatively easy and suitable for beginner quilters and a fun sew for more advanced quilters.
2025 Summer Sew-Along - "Flowers by the Brook"
The WQG Summer Sew-Along was an easy sew starting July 5th through to August 30th, 2025. With a little sewing each week, sewers had a quilt top by Labour Day. Our project is called “Flowers By The Brook” by Elise Lea for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The quilt finishes at 55" x 65".
No pattern purchase was required as we used a free pattern. The project was suitable for beginners and more experienced quilters. It it was interesting and inspiring to see the types and colors chosen by our summer sewers.
